Welcome to Rachel Patterson Elementary School! 2016-2017

Dear Parents and Guardians,

Rachel Patterson Elementary School is proud to offer a challenging curriculum to approximately 406 students in grades K-2.  RPES is fully accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools-The Council on Accreditation and School Improvement (SACSCASI).  To be accredited, a school must meet strict quality assurance standards.  RPES has consistently met these standards.

At Rachel Patterson, we strive to meet the needs of all of our students.  As an Alabama Reading Initiative School, RPES places a strong focus on reading.  These programs have been extremely successful in the state of Alabama and we have seen increased reading accuracy for our students as well.  Our reading program is Scott-Foresman's "Reading Street".  This reading program was ranked as one of the top reading programs by a panel at the Alabama State Department of Education.  It is scientifically-research based and addresses the five components of reading.  Accelerated Reader is a huge program here at RPES.  We are proud of our students and their reading progress.  Another big focus at RPES is math instruction.  Go Math! is the state adopted curriculum for our math instruction.  We have implemented Accelerated Math,Rocket Math Math Facts in a Flash, and Eureka Math(Engage New York) to supplement our math instruction as we are now an AMSTI school. These programs are also research based and numerous studies have shown that they provide broad mathematical content in a manner allowing the students to become more efficient problem solvers.

Rachel Patterson employs a myriad of certified professionals in grades K-2. All of our teachers are committed to a program of excellence. Moreover, all of our teachers are highly qualified. In addition to superb teachers, we have an instructional coach, a  speech therapist, an elementary special educator, a pre-k special educator, two physical education educators, a guidance counselor, a music educator,a library media specialist, and two certified administrators.  Additional staff includes a full-time registered nurse, two instructional paraprofessionals, two special education paraprofessionals, two office aides, a secretary/ bookkeeper, a cafeteria manager, four cafeteria workers, and four custodians.

We, at RPES, are proud to  provide Atmore students  a quality educational program, that is second to none.  We challenge you, as parents and guardians, to become actively involved in your child's education and partner with us to ensure your child's success.

We care very much for your children. Thank you for entrusting them to us.
